❄️ This Week AI News: GPT-4.5 Leaks, OpenAI's Latest Moves, and Google's AI Evolution

Dive into the latest AI developments: Unraveling GPT-4.5 rumors, exploring OpenAI's new partnerships, and dissecting Google's AI advancements – all in this week's chilly edition

Hey AIpreneur,

As I was de-icing the car this frosty morning, I thought about how we adapt to winter's challenges – much like the fascinating world of AI, which seems to have its own seasonal rhythms.

It's a reminder of how intertwined our lives are with these evolving technologies.

Now, let's delve into this week's AI news, packed with intriguing developments:

  1. Leak of GPT-4.5: The AI community is buzzing with rumors about GPT-4.5, found on Reddit. This version is rumored to be more advanced, featuring capabilities in audio, vision, video, and 3D, along with complex reasoning and cross-modal understanding. The leaked screenshot shows API pricing for GPT 4.5, including a 64k version and an audio and speech version, with pricing significantly higher than the GPT-4 Turbo model.

  2. AI Performance in Winter: There's a theory that GPT-4 might perform worse during winter months. This hypothesis suggests that since GPT-4 was trained on internet data, which shows people being less active in December, the AI might mimic this behavior. Experiments indicated that GPT-4 produced shorter responses when it believed it was December compared to May. Read more.

  3. Axel Springer and OpenAI Partnership: Axel Springer, which had previously considered suing AI firms like OpenAI for using their content, is now partnering with them. This collaboration aims to keep ChatGPT updated on current events and news using content from Axel Springer's media properties. Read more.

  4. ChatGPT Plus Subscriptions Reopened: OpenAI has reopened subscriptions for ChatGPT Plus, thanks to the availability of more GPUs.

  5. Google's Gemini Launch Criticism: Google faced criticism over the launch of Gemini, with suggestions that the demo video was misleading. It appears many features presented in the Gemini demo are already possible with GPT-4 Vision. Read more about Gemini.

  6. Google's New AI Tools: Google released several new AI tools, including Notebook LM for document interaction and Music FX (formerly Music LM) for music generation. They also announced the availability of the Gemini Pro API for developers. (No specific link available for these tools.)

  7. Comparison of AI Tool Pricing: The pricing of Google's Gemini Pro API is currently less expensive compared to OpenAI's GPT-4, offering a more affordable option for developers.

As we wrap up this week's newsletter, just like adapting our routines for winter, it's fascinating to see how AI might be doing the same.

It's a journey of continuous adaptation and growth, and I'm excited to be sharing it with you.

Stay warm and inspired!

Best,

Andrew Darius
