This week has been quite eventful in the world of AI, and I’m excited to share the latest updates with you. From hilarious Google AI failures to big announcements from OpenAI and Microsoft, there’s a lot to cover.

Google AI Failures

Google's AI had some major blunders this week. Here are a few highlights:

• It recommended using non-toxic glue on pizza to keep the cheese from sliding.

• Claimed 1919 was 20 years ago.

• Suggested pregnant women should smoke two to three cigarettes a day.

• Said it’s safe to leave dogs in hot cars.

• Provided false information about a character from SpongeBob.

These mistakes are not only hilarious but also concerning. It shows how much work still needs to be done to make AI reliable and safe.

OpenAI Controversies

There have been some significant changes at OpenAI:

• Yan Leike, head of Superalignment, resigned, criticizing the company for prioritizing product over safety.

• OpenAI was reportedly using non-disparagement agreements, preventing former employees from speaking negatively about the company.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, acknowledged these issues and promised changes. OpenAI also released former employees from controversial exit agreements. This will be interesting to watch as more former employees might now share their experiences.

OpenAI and Scarlett Johansson Controversy

OpenAI’s new GPT-4 voice sounded a lot like Scarlett Johansson, leading to some controversy:

• Johansson declined OpenAI's request to use her voice, but the voice used was very similar.

• OpenAI claimed it was a coincidence and paused using the voice out of respect.

OpenAI Partnerships and Rumors

• OpenAI has partnered with News Corp, gaining access to content from major publications like the Wall Street Journal and New York Post. Some concerns about potential bias were raised, but I don't think it will change the outputs significantly.

• Rumors are flying that OpenAI might team up with Apple for Siri integration. This could be a game-changer!

Microsoft Announcements

Microsoft made some exciting announcements at their Build event:

• Copilot+ PCs: New PCs with Neural Processing Units (NPUs) for on-device AI processing.

• Recall Feature: Tracks your computer usage history, raising some privacy concerns.

• AI Integrations: AI-powered features in Microsoft Paint, Edge browser, and Windows copy-paste functions.

• Copilot for Teams: An AI assistant for team collaboration.

• Phi-3 Model: A new multimodal AI model for advanced applications.

• GitHub Copilot Extensions: New integrations to enhance development tools.

Meta and AI Developments

Meta introduced the Chameleon model, a state-of-the-art multimodal AI model. They also set up an Advisory Group for AI, but it’s facing criticism for lack of diversity.

AI Art Platforms

• Leonardo AI Overhaul: Significant updates, including new character reference features and an improved user interface.

• MidJourney’s New Rooms Feature: Allows for public and private collaboration on AI art generation.

• Adobe Firefly in Lightroom: Integration of AI-powered generative remove feature directly in Lightroom.
